How Long Does Concrete Take to Cure?

Concrete does not “dry” the way paint does—it cures through a chemical reaction that continues for weeks. Strength develops over time. How soon you can use the surface depends on the mix, weather, thickness, and whether the load is foot traffic or vehicles.

Typical Guidelines

• Foot traffic — Often possible within about 24–48 hours when conditions are favorable.
• Vehicle traffic — Usually delayed longer; several days to a week or more is common for residential driveways. Follow the guidance given for your specific pour.
• Full strength — Design strength continues to develop over roughly 28 days under normal conditions.
